The building is located on an interesting and challenging site above London Underground lines and adjacent the Regents Canal. The project was subject to stringent planning conditions including a requirement for BREEAM Excellent Rating and a 20% improvement on normal Building Regulations Part L2A carbon emission rates.
NDC were able to assist the client and design teams to achieve the environmental performance targets by employing the optimum level of passive design techniques combined the with use of low energy and renewable technologies including;
- LED lighting at 2W/m²/100lux.
- U-values that are generally in excess of building regulations standards for the notional building.
- Air permeability: 5m³/hr/m² of facade
- 80m² of south facing polycrystalline PV cells generating 15.5kWp
NDC developed Employers Requirements Documents for the scheme to RIBS Stage D to enable the M&E works to be procured under a design and build contract. Furthermore, providing ongoing duties to review the contractor design proposals and installation phase of the project.
We have been pleased to be involved with the South Midlands strategy since 2009, with major mail centre and delivery office works planned on site concurrently.
The strategy aims to deliver 3,000 TCO₂(e) reductions in line with RMG Energy Strategy.
NDC have been involved with several mail centre strategies over the many decades. More recently we have been involved with estates strategies for RM Group Property within the South Midlands successfully delivering complex building projects in live environments including new build and refurbishment.
